Tips to Love Yourself Even More
You quite often hear people saying things like: ‘You have
to love yourself, before anyone else will love you’, but loving yourself
doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Many people find it easier to show
compassion and love to other people, but they find it hard to allow themselves
to do the same.
To find true happiness, it is just as important as to accept
yourself for who you are, as it is to forgive other people for their flaws and
their mistakes. So, be honest with yourself, be happy with who you are, and
learn how to love that person that is inside you. Here are ten tips on how you can do just that, and learn
to love yourself more.
1. Forget your mistakes
You probably can’t just wipe your mistakes from your
memory, but, if you dwell on them, it will do you no good at all. We have all
made mistakes in our lives and done things that we wish we hadn’t, but stop
beating yourself up about them, because you can’t change the past. Learn how to
forgive yourself, as easily as you forgive other people, and you will be one
step closer to learning to love yourself.
2. Stop trying to please everyone else
You don’t need anyone else’s permission to be you and you
don’t need to win their approval. Sometimes you just have to do the things that
will make you happy and, perhaps, even some things that other people will not
like. Being a caring person is a noble trait, but you have to care for yourself
too.
3. Be grateful for who you are
Be grateful for who you are and what you have. Never lose
sight of the fact that there will always be people in the world who do not have
the things that you have, or that can do the things that you can do. This goes
beyond being grateful for material possessions; it also includes the things
that make you unique. Don’t take your own talents and abilities for granted,
remember that you can do things that other people can’t.
4. Make time for your passion
Most people have something that they are passionate
about, so make time for your passion and follow your dreams. Whether it’s a
hobby, an ambition, or a favourite cause, one of the best ways that you can
learn to love yourself more is to do the things that make you happy and give
you a sense of achievement.
5. Don’t be afraid to sing your own praises
Be proud of yourself when you achieve something and don’t
be afraid to tell other people about it. There is nothing wrong in admitting
that you did a good job and having some pride in what you do. It will help you
to appreciate your own abilities. You should always celebrate your
achievements, not hide them away.
6. Believe in your own instincts
If you want to love someone, then you have to trust them,
and that includes learning to trust yourself. Trust your instincts and follow
up on the ideas that you have and you will be surprised at how many times you
are right. Don’t just assume that any ideas you have must be wrong, believe in
yourself and, at least, give your ideas some thought, before you assign them to
the garbage.
7. Don’t take life too seriously
If you take everything too seriously, you will never be
able to make any decisions and you will never take any risks. Learn how to
laugh things off, when they don’t go to plan, and learn how to get up and give
it another go. To be able to truly love yourself, you are going to need to be
able laugh at yourself too.
8. Enjoy everything as it happens
Loving you and loving life, go hand in hand, so live for
the present and enjoy every moment as it comes along. Look up and see what is
going on around you and be a part of what is happening today. It’s all too easy
to look inward all the time and miss out on the really important things that
are happening around you.
9. Choose your friends wisely
Your friends should be the people who make you feel good
about yourself, motivate you and inspire you, not the ones who bring you down.
Unfortunately, there are people who just seem to have a knack of finding the
negatives in anything, so avoid this type of person and spend your time with
positive people instead.
10. Never be ashamed of who and what you are
There are over 7 billion people in the world. That’s
billions of individuals, each one of whom is unique, with their own beliefs,
their own abilities and their own flaws. Celebrate your own uniqueness each and
every day and don’t try and be someone else. You are who you are and you should
be proud of that. You really should start to love that person too.
