You're not an island; Build a quality relationship

Growth comes from your ability to embrace the truth even when it is painful. Constructive feedback is invaluable, and having friends who will give it to you is important and necessary for your growth. We all need people in our lives. No one is an island. We need their perspective, their wisdom, their honesty, and their support. The strength of our relationships is one of the greatest measures of the quality of our lives.

To build a quality relationship, something you have to let go is 'ego' and adopt an attitude of humility, or attitude of service. "If your kneeling down in prayer don't make you a dwarf; your humility won't make you a fool or belittle you." Build relationship with people of whom you can share the greatest trust and confidence. Take note when they share their thought. Your approach to a relationship shouldn't be attitude of what's in this for me, or attitude of I don't have  time for anybody. One day you'll probably find yourself alone and wondering where all of your friends have gone.

The most powerful tool for building lasting and mutually beneficial relationship is 'attitude of service', in which the goal in every relationship should be to add value to the other person's life. Your goal therefore should be to add value to the quality of the lives of those people who have trusted you with their friendship. This means you're there for them when they need support and assistance. It also means you aren't afraid to stand up for them when they're fallen out of favour. It means that you focus on the best that is in them and try to help them express it even when they aren't focusing on the best inn themselves.

I bet you, if you approach your relationship with the attitude above, you'll always be able to find shelter in friendship and trust of others. Don't be surprise to find yourself dealing with attitudes of loneliness, rejection, and isolation, if you haven't put substantial effort into developing strong relationship. Beware, the people you allow to embrace your life ultimately have the greatest impact on your attitude.
